Ambiguous in its description, Lost... Found gives few clues as to its content, yet leads to intrigue that only draws you in further. The solo real-life piece starring K. Lorrel Manning - filmmaker, director, actor, musician and playwright to name just a few - takes audiences on his journey after a major childhood event, in a wholly thought-provoking and soul-searching manner, with mention of unlikely heroes and musical greatness, such as Prince.
Co-directors, Lee Brock and Christine Cirker have given a quick rundown of their work on the production.
What drew you to working as directors of Lost... Found?
Lorrel has been in our community for over 25 years. After hearing this story for the first time, we were deeply moved and touched. And we knew that we had to share this story with the world.
How are you conveying such meaningful emotion and storytelling in only an hour?
The story itself does the heavy lifting. Lorrel originally wrote this as a 90-minute piece, but this one-hour version will inspire you.
What extra considerations must you make when directing an autobiographical piece with authenticity?
When something is autobiographical, there is a greater sensitivity to the creator. The three of us have known each other for decades, and there is a built-in trust that allows the story to flourish in a safe environment.
Although personal to Lorrel as a performer, how does the show grab the attention of viewers and relate to them too?
Life throws everyone obstacles. The way Lorrel finds joy through music and family is
universal.
What excites you most about staging the production at the Edinburgh Fringe?
It has been an opportunity to refine the story, making it more clear– so it can have a greater
impact on the audiences.
How do you anticipate audiences to respond to the piece, and what message do you hope they take away?
They will love this story; be moved to laughter and to tears. We hope that they will find the
space for love and forgiveness within themselves and greater compassion for those around
them.
Thanks so much to Lee and Christine for a bit more about the beauty behind the show - I hope you're having a fantastic run so far and sincerely wish for big things going forward with the production!
