Taking on a fantastic festive fundraiser, 13 year old Elsie Smith will be singing alongside her brother Oliver (15) on the drums, Uncle Ben on the guitar and mum Kelly on the keyboard as they embark on a 24 hour livestream to raise money for Alzheimer's Society. Following her Nana's diagnosis with the condition last year, Elsie is following in the family’s footsteps by sharing her talent over the course of this challenge.
The livestream will be from 10pm GMT this Friday 22nd until 10pm on Saturday 23rd December here:
If you're able to donate towards this, please do - it would be really appreciated.
Elsie has kindly answered a few questions about her role in the exciting upcoming event.
Why do you want to take part in this 24 hour LIVE?
I want to take part in this 24 hour live because I really want to raise money for the Alzheimer’s society and I also love spending time with my family, especially while doing something I love.
What does raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society mean for you and your family?
Knowing that my Nana has dementia, Alzheimer’s society is very important to me as I know how hard it can be to have a family member with dementia, and would love to support others with the same condition as my Nana.
How long have you been singing, and what do you enjoy most about it?
I have been singing for about 7 years and I enjoy listening and learning all different kinds of music, as well as singing with a group of singers, especially if we're singing something from a musical!
What do you think will be the biggest challenge with doing the livestream and how are you preparing for the event?
I think the most challenging part of the 24 hour live will be staying awake the entire time, also because we're starting at 10:00pm, so we've already been awake for 12 hours! So right now, I’m trying to get as much sleep as possible.
What are you most looking forward to about it and are there any particular songs you’re excited to sing for us?
I’m most looking forward to playing with Ben, Mum, and Oliver as I think that will be really funny! I’ve recently been working on Vampire by Olivia Rodrigo, and Make you feel my love by Adele, so I’m really looking forward to sharing those with everyone!
Who inspires you and what do you admire most about them?
I look up to Carrie Hope Fletcher, who is an author, singer, and a musical theatre actor, who has played all of my favourite roles in the musical theatre business. She’s taught me not to give up, and to take all the opportunities you get, because you never know what might change your life.
If you could perform anywhere in the future, where would it be your dream to sing?
If I could perform anywhere, I would perform at either the Royal Albert Hall, The O2 arena, or the London Palladium because all of these places have a special place in my heart.
Big thanks to Elsie for her lovely responses as it's wonderful to hear from you. We are all really looking forward to watching you perform again for a great cause - best of luck!
